The best source of financial assistance for single mothers is the government. Women can apply for a federal aid grant and if they are able to qualify, they will have enough money at their disposal to take care of themselves as well as their children. When it comes to the money that is offered by such single mother assistance programs, there are no rules and regulations with regards to how it should be spent. Thus, a single mother can solely decide what to do with the money. Also, the money from these grants does not need to be paid back to the government, keeping the single mother debt and stress free. A single mother however, should make sure that the money is spent wisely.
Besides financial assistance, a mother can get some other government aids such as those for insurance, housing and for paying her monthly bills. For example, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) have a 'Insure Kids Now! Program' which provides low-cost child health insurance to low income families. Then there is another program named 'The Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program' which provides help to parents with children who cannot even meet the family's basic needs. If a single mother wants to buy a house, she can apply for an HUD program, initiated by the the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These single mother grants for home aid the woman in getting home ownership.
